Also known as California Hazel or Filbert

- Overall Shape:
This plant is typically shrub like growing up to 15 feet tall but can also grow to be a small tree with a height of up to 30 feet. The diamater of the main stem ranges from 6 to 12 inches.
- Branch appearance:
The leaf arrangement is two-ranked and alternate and the leaf shape is approximately round. Young twigs are pubescent (hairy).
- Leaves:
The leaves of the Hazelnut are pubescent and feel fuzzy to the touch. The margins of the leaves are doubly serrate.
